Foggy Double-Pane Glass | Failed Sealed Units | Patio Door Glass | Cracked Window Glass
Send us a few details and photos of the foggy window, and we will get back to you with options.
Fog, moisture or a milky haze between the panes of a double-pane window usually means the edge seal of the insulated glass unit (IGU) has failed. Once that seal fails, the fog cannot be wiped away from either side, and the glass will not clear up on its own.
In most cases the frame and sash are still in good condition, so you do not need a whole new window. We measure the existing glass unit, order a new sealed unit to size, and install it in your current frame. You get clear glass back for less than the cost of a full window replacement.
Ontario winters and humid summers put constant stress on window seals. Years of expansion and contraction, sun exposure and moisture slowly break down the seal around the edge of the glass unit. When outside air gets in, moisture condenses between the panes and leaves fog, streaks or white residue.
The most common job: a double-pane sealed unit with moisture or fog between the glass. We replace the unit and keep the existing frame.
Replacement units can be made with Low-E coatings, argon gas fill or triple-pane glass to match your existing windows or improve energy efficiency.
Foggy glass in patio sliding doors, door sidelites and transoms can be replaced the same way, without replacing the whole door.
Cracked, chipped or broken insulated glass units in homes and storefronts are measured and replaced with a new sealed unit.
A failed sealed unit lets heat out and moisture in. These are the most common signs that the glass unit needs to be replaced:
Cloudiness that you cannot wipe off from the inside or outside is trapped between the two panes of glass.
Condensation that appears between the panes, especially on cold mornings, means the seal is no longer airtight.
Over time, repeated condensation leaves white lines or stains on the inside surfaces of the glass unit.
When the insulating gas escapes from the unit, the glass feels colder and the room near the window becomes harder to heat.
A simple four-step process from the first visit to clear glass in your existing frame.
We confirm the seal has failed, check the frame and sash, and take exact measurements of the glass unit, including its thickness and spacer.
A new insulated glass unit is ordered to your measurements, with the glass type you choose: clear, Low-E, tempered or triple-pane where required.
We remove the old foggy unit and stops, install the new sealed unit in your existing frame, and reinstall the glazing stops and seals.
We check the fit, seal the edges where needed, and confirm the window or door opens, closes and locks properly before we leave.
Do not replace the whole window just because the glass is foggy. AEO Services replaces failed sealed glass units in your existing frames across Toronto, Durham Region, York Region and Simcoe County. Replacement glass starts at $35 per sq ft (4 sq ft minimum). Call or send us a photo for a free estimate.
Yes. In most cases we only replace the sealed glass unit and keep your existing frame and sash. This costs much less than a new window and does not require any changes to your walls or trim.
Not permanently. The fog is trapped between the two panes because the seal has failed. Surface cleaning does not reach it, and once the seal is broken the moisture will keep coming back. Replacing the sealed unit is the lasting fix.
Foggy glass replacement starts at $35 per square foot, with a 4 sq ft minimum. The final price depends on the size of the glass, the glass type (clear, Low-E, tempered or triple-pane) and how many units need replacing. We measure on site and give you a clear quote before any work is done.
